WHY DRAMA ENRICHMENT?
In this new digital age, it can be difficult for kids to connect with their own bodies, voices, creativity, and most importantly with each other. That’s why theatre is more than just a hobby; it builds skills that grow students' confidence and identity in every aspect of their life. Youth Theatre Northwest’s Philosophy is Human First: we are dedicated first to giving our students skills for life through Theatre. We prioritize the betterment of our students as people, rather than simply bettering their skills as actors.
In alignment with that mission, our enrichment classes explore the basics of theatre through collaborative storytelling, movement, and voice. Through these programs, students will work with and develop their skills, such as:
self-management
communication
collaboration with others
self-reflection
naming thoughts and feelings

The Arts as a Learning Tool
As outlined by ‘Connecting Arts to Social Emotional Learning’ from the Washington Office of Public Instruction, our classes help to develop Social Emotional Learning Standards, such as:
- Self Awareness: Identifying emotions and areas for growth.
- Emotional Regulation and Self Management.
- Self Efficacy: the ability to motivate oneself, persevere, and see oneself as capable.
- Social Management: student can make safe and constructive choices about personal behavior and social interaction.
All these skills are strengthened through collaboration, communication, and self expression-- all of which are uplifted in our drama enrichment classes.
