Summer Stock 2021
Interested in our Summer Stock season?
Actors who were originally cast for Summer 2020 were given the option of re-accepting their roles for Summer 2021. Due to the responses that have come in, no additional auditions will be held for 13 or Shrek Jr.
We do plan to hold auditions on April 17th to fill a limited number of roles for Princess and the Frog. Audition details can be found on the audition form here.
Summer of Horror film series auditions information can be found here.
These summer productions are going to look quite different. There's a lot of information and guidelines change. Participants will need to be flexible and patient as we navigate a successful and safe experience for all.
Summer Stock Need-To-Knows
Last year, our 2020 summer stock productions which were already fully cast, were put on hold due to the coronavirus and CDC restrictions. Now, a year later, we know so much more, and we guidelines now exist on how to make these shows happen safely.
Like many aspects of our lives right now, our summer season is going to look a little different this year.
This winter, the Washington State Governor's Office released theatre-specific Covid-19 guidelines. These guidelines do allow for our musical theatre productions to resume. However, they come with many additional restrictions to follow.
Additional guidelines include:
- Limiting the number of performers that can sing at the same time.
- Increased social distancing guidelines for singing with masks on.
- Increased social distancing guidelines for singing with masks off.
- Audience distancing guidelines (from the stage and amongst the audience itself).
YTN is still exploring exactly how to practically implement these guidelines while providing the best theatre experience possible for our students this summer. Below are some show-specific details for those actors previously cast in the 2020 summer stock shows.
Aristocats: based on the age of the participants and the performance restriction for musical theatre, YTN has determined that a musical is not a practical decision for this age group. In its place, YTN is going to produce The Princess and the Frog, written by YTN's own Kate Swenson. This is a non-singing play which requires less performance restrictions. Actors cast in Aristocats will receive first consideration for roles in Princess and the Frog.
13: The Musical and Shrek Jr. will proceed this summer, adopting the new Washington State guidelines for singing performance. Some of the guidelines include: actors pre-recording group numbers to limit actors singing live in a number, singing with a mask on, singing with masks on with 15 feet of social distancing, or other adaptations within the guidelines to help these productions be as successful as possible.
YTN will continue to adapt to the latest Covid-19 restrictions while balancing the the education, intellectual, artistic, and personal development of our students.
Our summer stock season will change as necessary to comply with government policy or mandate changes.
YTN will be hosting a Summer Stock 2021 parent meeting on Zoom on April 25th at 6:00 pm to review details of scheduling, Covid guidelines, and production procedures, as well as to answer your questions.

*Cost Tiers Explained
Tier I - True Cost. True costs covers: the educator classroom time, their class prep time, administrative work, and the YTN permanent staff all of which are essential in bringing you the high-quality program you expect. By choosing Tier I, you help our donation dollars stretch, keeping our doors open and allowing us to provide valuable theatre programming for more children and offer our Scholarship Rate to those in need.
Tier II - Direct Cost. Direct cost covers the educator rates for the duration of class time only.
Tier III – Reduced Cost. This price does not reflect the true cost of producing this class, but we know that the financial impact of sheltering in place has impacted some of our families more than others. A creative outlet is essential for our youth to cope with their drastically changed world and YTN will be there for them.
If this reduced rate is still too high, please contact Stephanie.
YTN will not turn any families away due to financial hardship.
