Geek. Poser. Jock. Beauty Queen. Wannabe. These are the labels that can last a lifetime. With an unforgettable rock score from Tony Award-winning composer, Jason Robert Brown, (Parade, The Last Five Years, Bridges of Madison County) 13 is a musical about fitting in – and standing out!

Evan Goldman is plucked from his fast-paced, preteen New York City life and plopped into a sleepy Indiana town following his parents divorce. Surrounded by an array of simpleminded middle school students, he needs to establish his place in the popularity pecking order. Can he situate himself on a comfortable link of the food chain... or will he dangle at the end with the outcasts?!?

Directed by YTN’s Executive Artistic Director Mimi Katano, and Musical Direction by Halie Looper (Disney’s Little Mermaid Jr. 2019), this duo reprises their roles from YTN’s 2013 production and will be casting 15-20 teens.

Though this is a show about middle school, 13 requires some advanced singers and students who look older than 13 for some of the roles.  High school aged actors are encouraged and welcome to audition.

Based on the beloved Disney animated film, and featuring a jazzy, upbeat score, Disney’s The Aristocats KIDS is a non-stop thrill ride of feline fun, complete with unbelievable twists and turns.

In the heart of Paris, a kind and eccentric millionairess wills her entire estate to Duchess, her high-society cat, and her three little kittens. Laughs and adventure ensue as the greedy, bumbling butler pulls off the ultimate catnap caper. Now it's up to the rough-and-tumble alley cat, Thomas O'Malley, and his band of swingin' jazz cats to save the day.

Directed by YTN Alumni Rachel Carlson (Radio Drama 2019 and 2020, Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse 2018) Disney's The Aristocats KIDS will be looking to cast 15-20 energetic actors who want to gain production experience.

Beauty is in the eye of the ogre in Shrek The Musical JR., based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film and fantastic Broadway musical.  It's a "big bright beautiful world" as everyone's favorite ogre, Shrek, leads a cast of fairytale misfits on an adventure to rescue a princess and find true acceptance.  Part romance and part twisted fairy tale, Shrek JR. is an irreverently fun show with a powerful message for the whole family.

Once upon a time, in a far away swamp, there lived an ogre named Shrek.  One day, Shrek finds his swamp invaded by banished fairytale misfits who have been cast off by Lord Farquaad, a tiny terror with big ambitions. When Shrek sets off with a wisecracking donkey to confront Farquaad, he's handed a task — if he rescues feisty princess Fiona, his swamp will be righted. Shrek tries to win Fiona’s love and vanquish Lord Farquaad, but a fairytale wouldn't be complete without a few twists and turns along the way.

Zoe Wilson (Disney’s Little Mermaid Jr., and The Lion King Jr.) returns to YTN Summer Stock to direct this production and Nathan Shiu (Fiddler on the Roof Jr., Mary Poppins Jr. and The Lion King Jr.) joins her as the Musical Director. They will be looking to cast 25-30 actors.

New This Year!

YTN Annex: an advanced acting program for high school and college students

Men On Boats (actors ages 14-20)

Directed by Erin Murray

Rehearsals: July 27-August 13 Mon-Fri 4:30-10:00 (plus possible weekend rehearsals)

Performances: August 14-22 Thursday/Friday/Saturday at 8:00pm and Sundays at 7:00pm.

Location: YTN Parish Hall Theatre

Tuition: $350 (Work Study Available)

Ten explorers. Four boats. One Grand Canyon. Men On Boats is the true(ish) history of an 1869 expedition, when a one-armed captain and a crew of insane yet loyal volunteers set out to chart the course of the Colorado River. But the intriguing part is that this piece of history is being told by 10 women playing the explorers, cleverly putting a distance between what actually happened and how we can understand it now. As Ben Bradly of New York Times wrote, “…imagining life in another, distant time always requires a leap of faith. The past has its own language, customs and sense of the human place in the world. Whenever screen and stage artists try to summon what life must have been like long ago, we’re too often conscious of jarring inconsistencies, of the anachronisms that are allowed to slip in. Men on Boats starts from the realization that we can never recreate exactly how it was. This play’s perspective is that of a contemporary reader filtering accounts of another age through her own latter-day sensibility.”

This thrilling and widely acclaimed play by Jaclyn Backhaus comes to YTN as the inaugural production of YTN Annex, our new advanced acting company, directed by Erin Murray. We are looking for 10 female identifying and non-binary actors of high school and college age.
